Unit 1 – Personal Resilience (15 hours)
In this unit, students will explore the theme of personal resilience. Students will read advice on resilience and stories related to resilience before analyzing and writing about resilience in analytical and creative ways. In this unit, students will read and analyze Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Students will relate the themes of Shakespeare to their own lives and current events in society. In this unit, students will read a variety of short stories and analyze them using different literary lenses (such as reader-response, historical/biographical, psychological, gender, socio-economic, and archetypal).
