Unit 1 – Introduction (~10 hours)

In this unit, students are introduced to this course and they will work on writing paragraphs and essays.

Unit 2 – Short Stories (~15 hours)

In this unit, students will read and analyze the Sherlock Holmes mystery “A Case of Identity” (written by Arthur Conan Doyle).

Weighting of summative work (subject to change): 2.B.6. “A Case of Identity” Summary (5%), 2.C.7. Mystery Short Story Assignment (10%), 2.D.2. Short Stories Quiz (5%)

Unit 3 – Animal Farm Novel Study (~25 hours)

In this unit, students will read and analyze the novel Animal Farm.

Weighting of summative work (subject to change): 3.C.5. Animal Farm Character PPT (10%), 3.D.4. Animal Farm Journal Response (5%), 3.F.2. Animal Farm Unit Quiz (5%)

Unit 4 – Media / Advertisements (~15 hours)

In this unit, students will read and analyze different advertisements and learn media literacy.

Unit 5 – 1984 Novel Study (~30 hours)

In this unit, students will read and analyze the novel 1984.

Unit 6 – Final Poetry ISU / Unit 7 – Final Exam (~15 hours)
